Fall...Time to Create Your Water Budget and involve your HOA
Sounds kind of weird huh? Yes, I thought so too, but we've been talking a lot about budgeting and sometimes that HOA fee can be high! If you live in Castle Rock, Colorado like us, you know that water can be one of your most exspensive bills especially during the summer months. I've spent more on water this summer than ever (it was hot and had to keep the kids busy with outdoor water activities), and I've seen a lot of common ground watering happening at weird times and broken sprinklers around the community. Although our HOA seems to get these items fixed fairly quickly, there is a lot that the town of Castle Rock offers HOAs to help with costs and save water!

Here are some things to consider when talking to your HOA about water budget:
-Reduction of turf (some HOAs have already opted to remove grass and put in something more H2O friendly like rock)
-Water for plant type (certain types of plants take less water)
-Contract a professional and hold them to a standard with a performance-based contract (Castle Rock offers a link CRgov.com/landscapers to certified professionals)
-Did you know there's such a thing as a water manager? Yup! Use one of those!
-Not only does the town of Castle Rock offer rebates to residents for switching out high-water plants, they'll rebate the HOA too and other non-residential customers!!
